Applied anthropologist specialising in the ethnographic examination of artificial intelligence (AI) to understand its potential and shortcomings. My research interests span medical anthropology, AI, ethics of care, user experience design, and maternal health practices. My Ph.D. thesis focuses on the impact of a software technology application developed by a startup in Lusaka on maternal care practices in Zambia. Through detailed analysis of user interactions with the technology in various maternal care contexts, I uncover how AI innovations are transforming approaches to maternal healthcare.
My work delves into the diversity and inclusivity of the datasets driving the app’s functionalities and the training models implemented. By investigating these areas, I provide a comprehensive understanding of the role AI plays in shaping maternal health practices and the ethical considerations involved in its deployment.
