Building machine learning and AI models are closely related to Feminist AI research around the aspects of data collection and curation phases and the model development of AI models. It is important that the data we collect is unbiased and non-discriminatory data that can be used for building fair AI models.
My work is impactful on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Uganda who use machine learning models for early infield crop disease diagnosis. Building speech and text resources for Ugandan languages have a potential impact on solving several challenges on access to technology due to language barriers.
