Observatory of Women and LGBTQAI+ Intellectuals in Digital Platforms

About the work

The Observatory of Women and LGBTQAI+ Intellectuals in Digital Platforms focuses on the intersections of digital technocultural studies, decolonialism, antiracism and feminism in Latin America, examining the central role women intellectuals play in antiracist and feminist social media activism. It also seeks to develop tools to detect and study the incidence of hate speech against female celebrities, creating a classifier of misogynistic hate speech in Portuguese and Spanish.

Impact

This project seeks to give visibility to Women and LGBTQAI+ intellectuals as well as to the counter-publics that mobilize them in Digital Platforms. It also seeks to detect and mitigate human rights violations in digital spaces, combating racism, xenophobia and discrimination in digital environments due to gender, LGBTQIA+ identity in languages and geolocations that do not receive adequate funding and attention.
