It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D)’s upcoming webinar as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) hub of the F<a+i>r Hubs Network (Feminist AI Research Network).

‘Exploring Multidisciplinary at the Data Science Hub’.

Meet our speaker:

Dr. Nouri Sakr is an Assistant Professor of Data Science and Operations Research at the American University in Cairo . She is also the founder of the Data Science Hub and a member of the Steering Committee for the Data Science undergraduate program at AUC. Dr. Sakr received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research with a focus on Data-Driven Optimization. As an undergrad, she double majored in Computer Science and Actuarial Science at AUC, then earned a Masters of Mathematics in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo with a focus on FinTech. Her research focuses on leveraging connections between data science and combinatorial optimization to design data-driven algorithms that efficiently tackle real-world optimization challenges with social impact. At Amazon and Microsoft, she worked on supply chain analytics, dynamic inventory allocation and cloud storage traffic problems.

During her Ph.D. journey and as an affiliate of the Data Science Institute at Columbia University, she accumulated further experience on building fast machine learning frameworks and adaptive machine learning in cybersecurity through her collaborations with Google Brain and Sandia National Labs. She also built healthcare solutions for Columbia Medical Center. She briefly collaborated on foster care matching through her work at Graham Windham in NYC and designing ML algorithms for unemployment reduction through her collaboration with the J-PAL program and an Egyptian startup. In 2020, she founded the DataScience Hub as a collaboration platform for academics and industry professionals as well as research scholars from Egypt and abroad. The projects at the DSH apply data science techniques in interdisciplinary areas, such as in education, healthcare, fintech, system scheduling and economics. The DSH aims at using data science to solve problems that have an impact on social good.
