About < A+ > Alliance

The <A+> Alliance for Inclusive Algorithms

The <A+> Alliance is a global, multidisciplinary coalition led by Women@theTable and Code for Africa. We bring together academics, activists, and technologists to prototype the future of artificial intelligence and automated decision-making systems. Our feminist approach accelerates gender equality through technology and innovation. Created for and by women and girls, the <A+> Alliance ensures no one is left behind as we shape the digital future.

Organized by

Women@theTable is a global civil society organization breaking down systemic barriers to ensure women and girls fully participate in shaping our social, political, and economic landscapes. We leverage technology, innovation, and AI as key tools to amplify feminist influence in strategic sectors: democracy & governance, economy, and technology.

In 2019, our “Affirmative Action for Algorithms” declaration at Women in Data Science Zürich catalyzed the formation of the <A+> Alliance. This international coalition addresses gender, racial, and intersectional bias in AI and emerging technologies. We proudly lead the <AI & Equality> initiative, as well as the Generation Equality Action Coalition on Technology & Innovation for Gender Equality and our sister network, the Feminist AI Research (f<A+I>r) network.

In 2015, we co-founded the International Gender Champions, a leadership network of decision-makers dedicated to breaking gender barriers for systemic change. This now-independent organization maintains hubs in Geneva, New York, Vienna, Nairobi, The Hague, and Paris.

The <A+> Alliance was co-founded by Women@theTable and Ciudadanía Inteligente in 2019, whose contributions were instrumental in creating this alliance. Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) co-led the Alliance 2021-2024 focused on the  Feminist AI Research (f<A+I>r) network. In 2025, Code for Africa joined the <A+> Alliance, bringing 13+ years of experience in civic technology, to amplify the work of the Alliance across the global south.
is a public university established in 1971. Laboratorio Experimental (LabExp) is a research and extension group, located in the Centro Académico de Alajuela of Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. LabExp promotes the exchange and construction of knowledge between Public University and its social, economic and cultural surroundings. LabExp work is based on two objectives: the first is to develop and implement computing technology to contribute to the solution of problems of the local reality; the second is to promote participation of students from Computing Engineering in the processes developed with the aim of contributing to their comprehensive formation. The proposed solutions to the problems must be transversalized by three elements that are considered essential from the LabExp perspective: free software, open data, and active participation of the community.
