SafeHer is simultaneously a women’s empowerment and AI safety app. Focused on transport systems in Metro Manila in the Philippines, SafeHer challenges societal norms, raises awareness, and will potentially influence policy changes concerning women’s safety and community action.
SafeHer has partnered with 5 Government Agencies, across 10 different cities, and has resolved 100 reports. The prototype, developed as a F<A+i>r funded project, features AI-powered functionalities, including SOS Alert, a nearby female commuter identification, live location sharing, Medical ID, User Verification and Invitation, as well as scream detection.
In this pilot cycle, the team will select a small group of users to test SafeHer in real-world scenarios. There will be prototype improvements as well, including enhancing scream detection to 95% accuracy; adding a SafeWord triggered feature allowing users to set words that would trigger various functions (i.e a call to hotline services).
SafeHer, as all F<A+i>r funded projects are, has open source code which can be used as a reference for further developments in other localities.
