Digital rights, data protection, AI solution for legal evidence gathering, and digital inclusion

About the work

Digicivic Initiative is an organization committed to upholding human rights through a free, safe, and open internet. Digicivic Initiative expands the frontiers of digital rights and civic participation in Africa by organizing public interest actions, strategic litigation, training, and advocacy.

Impact

My work with DigiCivic Initiative focuses on advancing digital rights, data protection, responsible technology and digital inclusion in Nigeria. As part of this work, I am involved in coordinating the development of Àdàbà AI, an open-source AI-powered tool designed to support access to information and strengthen responses to technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). My role involves contributing to the development of the tool’s data governance and informed consent framework, data gathering for the training of the AI, supporting stakeholder consultations and ensuring that privacy, data protection, digital rights and ethical considerations are integrated into the design and deployment of the technology. Through this work, I am particularly interested in the intersection of technology, human rights, gender justice and responsible AI, and in developing practical, rights-respecting solutions that respond to the realities faced by communities in Nigeria and across Africa.
