About the work

Lucía Egaña Rojas holds a Ph.D. in Audiovisual Communication and also has studied Art, Aesthetics, and Creative Documentary. As an artist, she works on projects that problematize the construction of social imaginaries and the sources of hegemonic knowledge. Her interests span feminisms, methodologies, technology, North-South power relations, colonial and migratory processes and extractivism. Her projects materialize in artistic production, writing, research and pedagogy. She has been a teacher and member of the academic direction of the Independent Studies Program (PEI) of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA); a member of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad de Barcelona; guest professor in the M.A. in Gender Studies at the Universidad de Chile and at in the MUECA M.A. (UMH); and also participates in the FIC research group (Fractalities and Critical Research) at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.

Impact

She organized the Post-Pornography Festival Muestra Marrana and in 2011 made the documentary Mi sexualidad es una creación artística. In her writing, she explores different formats, from fiction to essay, through poetic prose, manifesto, and academic text. She is currently completing the projects “Subnormal Methodologies” and “Decentering the gaze to broaden the vision.” She participates in the M.A.M.I Museum, in the Centro de Estudios de la Naturaleza Extractiva (CENEx), in the Institute of Porn Studies, in the Real Archivo Sudaca, and in the Pluriversidad Nómada.
