Athandiwe leads the AI Innovation Sandbox for Gender Equality, a programme of the A+ Alliance (a coalition between Code for Africa and Women At The Table) designed to give women-led and women-focused organisations in Sub-Saharan Africa the tools, skills and infrastructure to build responsible AI solutions that advance gender justice.
As a data and AI strategist leading Code for Africa’s iLAB, Athandiwe specialises in AI-driven research systems, digital investigations, and responsible AI adoption in newsrooms and civic institutions. Across her roles, her work centres on correcting the structural exclusion of African women from shaping AI, data, and digital governance systems. In this role, she will assist in building pathways for feminist organisations to move from paper to prototype to pilots.
