About the work

Curiosity, social justice, and a need for gender equity drive Chenai’s interest in digital technology. Her work focuses on digital rights through research to influence public interest policy and civil society engagement, advisory to technologists to think of how their technology affects women and gender-diverse people, and interventions such as grant-making and fellowships to support leadership growth and sustainability of feminist movements on the African continent. Chenai’s work draws on principles of feminism to think through digital technology interventions in their contexts and how they connect globally. She has worked on women’s rights online, digital identity, online gender-based violence, and data and AI projects. Her career includes being a Researcher, Communication and Evaluations Manager at Research ICT Africa, Gender and Digital Rights Research Manager at Web Foundation and Senior Program Officer at Mozilla Foundation.

Impact

Chenai is a dedicated advocate for feminist principles and their application to digital technology interventions. She is passionate about projects that address women’s rights online, digital identity, combatting online gender-based violence, and promoting the ethical use of data and AI. Chenai is committed to shaping public interest policies and sparking civil society engagement in digital rights discussions through her research and advocacy efforts. In addition to her professional work, Chenai serves as an advisor to technologists, encouraging them to reflect on the gendered impact of their innovations on women and gender-diverse individuals.
