Research to develop a positive and inclusive vision for citizens’ interactions with the state through data and AI. Particular recent focus has been on methods for assessing and evaluating societal impact of algorithmic systems: developing our understanding of impact assessment and audit and bridging computer science and policy discussions on this theme. Aside from my day job, I also spend a lot of time teaching women and non-binary people to code in a bid to increase access, power and representation.
In line with the alliance’s first goal: advocate for and adopt guidelines that establish accountability and transparency for algorithmic decision making (ADM) in both the public and private sectors. The focus of my work considers approaches to achieve this, and ultimately the positive, equitable and inclusive social impact we wish to see from this.
